JinkoSolar Holding Co., Ltd., one of the leading solar module manufacturers globally, has recently received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for the near and long-term emissions reduction goals of its key subsidiary, Jinko Solar Co., Ltd. This achievement positions JinkoSolar as the world’s first photovoltaic (PV) company to have its Net-zero targets officially validated, making it the second company in mainland China and the third in the global semiconductor industry to attain this status.

The SBTi is a worldwide organization that empowers businesses to establish ambitious emissions reduction targets aligned with the latest climate science. Its primary focus is to propel companies globally towards halving emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. In the current era of climate change, engaging in and setting science-based targets has become a standard business practice, indicating the competitiveness and responsibility of companies in the realms of sustainable development and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. Presently, over 7,000 companies worldwide, including Tesla, Apple, BASF, Lenovo, and Tencent, have committed to the SBTi.

In late 2019, JinkoSolar joined the RE100 green initiative, and by the end of 2021, its subsidiary, Jinko Solar Co., Ltd., officially pledged to adopt net-zero targets in accordance with climate science through the SBTi. In the first half of 2023, Jinko Solar Co., Ltd. released its 2022 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report, unveiling its climate roadmap for the first time. Leveraging its consistently innovative photovoltaic (PV) technology and reliable products, JinkoSolar plays a crucial role in providing globally accessible, secure, affordable, and renewable electricity, addressing the challenges of global climate change in an economically viable and environmentally friendly manner. In the fourth quarter of 2023, JinkoSolar achieved a milestone by becoming the first PV company to deliver over 200 GW of solar modules. According to estimates by IHS Markit, one out of every eight solar modules worldwide is manufactured by JinkoSolar, contributing to 1 kilogram of carbon reduction for every 8 kilograms of PV products.

The SBTi is set to publish the approved net-zero target of Jinko Solar Co., Ltd. on its website on January 25, 2024.
