Starbucks and Mercedes-Benz Collaborate on EV Charging Network Across US Starbucks Locations

Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging and Starbucks Elevate EV Charging Experience Across America

Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging and Starbucks are joining forces to enhance the EV charging experience nationwide. Their collaboration aims to electrify over 100 Starbucks stores, beginning with the 1,400-mile Interstate 5 (I-5) corridor, stretching from Canada to Mexico. The goal is to make EV charging as pleasant as ordering a cup of coffee.

Nationwide Expansion

Mercedes-Benz plans to install industry-leading 400 kW chargers at 100 Starbucks locations across the U.S. “The collaboration between two leading brands like Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks will uplift the charging experience for all EV drivers,” said Andrew Cornelia, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging. “We envision a future where charging your vehicle is as easy as enjoying your favorite Starbucks.

Convenient Charging

This partnership allows customers to seamlessly incorporate charging into their daily lives. “Partnering with Mercedes is the next step in expanding our EV charging network so our customers can refuel sustainably while they enjoy Starbucks,” said Michael Kobori, Starbucks Chief Sustainability Officer. Starbucks aims to connect communities that lack renewable and clean energy infrastructure.

Strategic Corridors

The initial phase will focus on installing DC Fast chargers at Starbucks locations along the I-5 corridor. This major west coast travel route will serve as a model for future expansion into urban areas, charging deserts, and other key travel corridors.

Sustainability Commitment

Both companies are dedicated to sustainability. Starbucks aims to cut carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, and its renewable energy projects, including EV charging, support this goal. In the U.S., Starbucks customers can already charge their EVs at over 1,000 stores.

Mercedes-Benz is working towards its “Ambition 2039” goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its entire fleet and value chain. The company’s high-power charging network, powered by 100% clean energy, is a significant step towards this target. Since launching its first site in November 2023, the network has expanded rapidly, with locations in Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Future Vision

Mercedes-Benz plans to collaborate with leading brands to improve the quality of the charging experience, reimagine spatial design, and create market-leading consumer offerings. This partnership with Starbucks is a significant milestone in that journey.
