BCG Signs 15-Year, 80,000-Ton Carbon Removal Deal with Climeworks

Climeworks, a prominent player in carbon removal through direct air capture technology, and Boston Consulting Group (BCG), a leading global management consulting firm, are deepening their collaboration through a 15-year strategic partnership agreement.

Similar to their initial contract in 2021, this new arrangement includes a carbon removal purchase agreement aimed at supporting BCG’s journey towards achieving net zero emissions. Additionally, BCG will continue to provide consulting services to Climeworks.

This extended partnership is poised to expedite the global deployment of Climeworks’s direct air capture and storage plants. It offers planning stability and supports financing endeavours, drawing parallels to how long-term contracts played a pivotal role in advancing early solar energy projects. Notably, the contract, encompassing 80,000 metric tons of CO2, stands as the largest single purchase by Climeworks’s corporate buyers to date. It follows the U.S. Department of Energy’s selection of Climeworks as the technology partner for three direct air capture hubs in the U.S. and the company’s recent collaborations in Kenya and Canada.
