SUMMARY:Climate Risk Management: A New Pillar in Bank ERM
DESCRIPTION:As companies around the world move quickly to quantify risk associated with climate change\, U.S. regulators\, policymakers\, investors and banks themselves are slowly working to level the playing field with the rest of the world. The SEC’s Climate Disclosure Rule for issuers requires companies to disclose climate-related risks that are reasonably likely to have a material impact on their business\, results of operations\, or financial condition. The SEC’s rule would also require disclosure of a company’s greenhouse gas emissions. In addition\, the Federal Reserve plans to start climate stress-testing exercises with the largest U.S. banks to further clarify how to manage climate risk. \n\n\n\nJoin S&P Global Market Intelligence and leading banking industry executives as they discuss how banks can take steps to begin to assess\, monitor and manage risk created by climate change and the low carbon transition. \n\n\n\nKey Discussion topics: \n\n\n\n\nCarbon footprinting: How to quantify Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions and set a baseline to establish reasonable targets and progress over time.\n\n\n\nQuantifying Scope 3 financed emissions across asset classes in accordance with the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF)\n\n\n\nTransition risk: Evaluating a client’s current ability to absorb future carbon prices\n\n\n\nQuantifying physical risk among real estate assets\n\n\n\nTask-Force for Climate Related Disclosures (TCFD) reporting\n\n\n\nIncorporating ESG risk factors when evaluating which loans to make\n\n\n\nHow to comply with the SEC’s new Climate Disclosure Rule; how to define materiality\n\n\n\nWhat is a reasonable expectation for disclosures for U.S. Banks and how to avoid “greenwashing”?

SUMMARY:5th ESG Summit with the 17th Asia Bond Markets Summit Swinging into action
DESCRIPTION:In association with\n\n\n\nGold Sponsors\n\n\n\n\n\nTurning commitment into action is crucial to achieving net-zero targets by 2050. COP26 has highlighted the urgency of climate issues and pushed countries to launch green action plans. Covid-19\, meanwhile\, has uncovered deficiencies in the social infrastructure\, particularly about protecting health and promoting the welfare of the people. Both require deliberate action to shift the world’s trajectory away from certain tragedies to a sustainable future. \nAsia\, which accounts for over 50% of global greenhouse gas emissions today\, must exercise resolve in its transition journey. In the wake of rapid urbanization and industrialization over the past two decades\, the region needs to enter a new phase that puts a premium on circular economy solutions\, resilient and renewable energy sources\, green cities and clean transport. \nThis is not only about leveraging resources wisely but unlocking the power of finance\, relying on more climate-friendly technology\, developing talent\, greening procurement processes and improving supply-chain resilience. Most importantly\, collaboration among governments\, the private sector and financial institutions is crucial to translate plans into actionable opportunities. \nSustainable finance offers a way to support these ambitions. The issuance of green\, social\, sustainability and sustainability-linked bonds reached US$331 billion as of December 2021. The social bond market\, in particular\, doubled in size from the previous year\, reflecting how this pandemic is shining the light on the myriad of deficiencies in this area. The volume of green and sustainable loans has also soared\, reaching US$98 billion. \nHowever\, the rising popularity of sustainable finance has heightened the risk of greenwashing. Investors now require high-quality environmental\, social and governance (ESG) data and standardized taxonomy to ensure that their funds contribute towards delivering positive outcomes for the environment and society. And\, as investors grow in sophistication\, the demand for more diversified sustainable products will only grow. \nThe Asset Events is delighted to organise the 5th ESG Summit – Asia-Pacific’s leading ESG forum alongside the 17th Asia Bond Markets Summit\, the annual gathering of thought leaders\, policymakers\, issuers and investors. This multi-event summit event brings together ESG thought leaders from governments\, corporates\, organizations\, investment funds and financial institutions to discuss the rapidly-evolving sustainability landscape.

SUMMARY:COP 15 — the ‘Paris moment for nature’: Is finance on board?
DESCRIPTION:Nature and climate are two sides of the same coin. COP 27 and its biodiversity equivalent COP 15\, play important roles in advancing policy responses to the climate and nature crises and providing clarity for the private sector on global goals and pathways for action. The business and financial world’s race towards net-zero emissions will succeed if they race equally fast towards a nature-positive future – and a ‘Paris-like framework’ is pivotal for the public and private sectors to rally behind. The climate crisis cannot be stopped without addressing degradation and loss of nature and biodiversity. \nIn this webinar\, we sit down with Elizabeth Maruma Mrema\, Executive Secretary of the CBD to learn about what the financial sector can expect from this ‘Paris moment for nature’\, at COP 15 in December 2022 in Montreal\, Canada under the Presidency of the People’s Republic of China. We will also learn about actions taken by financial institutions to support the halting and reversing of nature loss\, speaking with two financial institutions leading the ‘Public Policy Advocacy’ working group of the Finance for Biodiversity Foundation and influencing an ambitious outcome of the COP 15 negotiations. As fundamental precautionary agents to the financial sector\, we will also hear from the Central Bank of Chile and their pathway towards embedding nature in their fiduciary duty. The panel will reflect on the demands from and opportunities for the financial sector at COP 15\, providing you with the information needed to take action in the run-up\, during\, and after this landmark event. \nPresented by\nUNEP FI\, Finance for Biodiversity Foundation\, PRI\, and Finance@Biodiversity Community \nSpeakers \nElizabeth Mrema\, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and Co-chair of the TNFD – Eric Usher\, Head of UNEP Finance Initiative – Suresh Weerasinghe\, Head of Leveling Up & Investments\, Aviva – Elías Albagli\, Director\, Monetary Policy Division\, Central Bank of Chile – Emine Isciel\, Head of Climate and Biodiversity\, Storebrand Asset Management

SUMMARY:Cutting Edge of Sustainable Capital Markets: Catastrophe Bonds and Outcome Bonds
DESCRIPTION:The World Bank is organizing an in-person event\, “The Cutting Edge of Sustainable Capital Markets: Catastrophe Bonds and Outcome Bonds” in Singapore on Monday\, October 31\, 2022\, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This event is supported by the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Singapore Exchange. \nCatastrophe (cat) bonds enable sponsors to transfer and raise financing from capital markets for disaster risks. For investors\, cat bonds have low correlation with financial markets providing diversification from other asset types. Outcome bonds are increasingly being used to finance environmental\, social\, and governance outcomes. In outcome bonds\, investors fund a project and earn a return linked to the achievement of pre-agreed project outcomes. \nDuring this event\, investors and arrangers will discuss the current market outlook\, experience in investing in these bonds\, and the longer-term market development efforts for cat bonds and outcome bonds in Asia. \nFor more information\, please contact aamat@worldbank.org

SUMMARY:Looking Ahead: Next Generation Climate Risk Models
DESCRIPTION:Climate risk models are fundamental to understanding climate change and anticipating its risks on both credit and financial risks. In the last couple of years\, we’ve witnessed the emergence of various tools and analytics that incorporate climate change-related projection data and scenarios to provide a view of these risks. However\, these scenarios and the related macroeconomic backdrop are evolving dynamically\, creating the need for updating the analysis and keeping it relevant. \nDuring this webinar\, learn more about: \n\nThe importance of best-in-class data and models in climate scenario analysis\nEvolving customer behaviour and financing opportunities\nEffects of the changing geo-political and macroeconomic environment
