The Salzgitter Group is committed to its “Partnering for Transformation” strategy, which involves working closely with customers and partners to achieve its climate targets. As part of this strategy, the company has entered into a long-term power supply agreement with Iberdrola Deutschland, under which it will receive 114 MW of green electricity from the “Baltic Eagle” offshore wind farm for a period of 15 years, starting from the end of 2024.
The energy will be used to produce green hydrogen, a core component for Salzgitter AG to produce virtually carbon-neutral steel. This partnership is part of Salzgitter AG’s energy strategy to secure its requirements for electricity from renewables, particularly for its SALCOS® transformation program. Collaboration with Iberdrola is a key component of this strategy.
Iberdrola Deutschland is the largest operator of offshore wind farms in the German Baltic Sea and is also active in the onshore sector. The company’s integrated growth strategy involves entering into energy partnerships with leading German companies such as the Salzgitter Group.
Through strong partnerships and long-term power purchase agreements, Iberdrola Deutschland is contributing to the green transformation of the German industry and supporting the ramping up of green hydrogen in the market. The company aims to collaborate with other key players in the German business arena to help them achieve their climate targets with economically viable solutions such as power purchase agreements and photovoltaic projects.
