JetBlue, CHOOOSE Partner for Sustainable Air Travel

JetBlue has announced a new partnership with climate technology firm CHOOOSE for a platform allowing JetBlue customers to estimate their carbon emissions from flights and address them by directly contributing to purchasing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

CHOICE offers a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that allows businesses to create and manage climate initiatives that enable customers to track, understand, and cut emissions. The company has collaborated with aviation, travel, and logistics companies, including Trip.com, Air Canada, and British Airways, to develop offerings that allow customers to estimate their travel emissions and address them through programmes such as sustainable aviation fuel, carbon offsets, and carbon removals.

Customers of JetBlue will be able to access a dedicated platform under the new agreement, allowing them to input flight data to determine the flight’s estimated emissions, select the proportion of the carbon footprint to be reduced, and then contribute to a fund dedicated to covering the cost premium of SAF over conventional jet fuel.

SAF consumed around 0.3% of JetBlue’s overall fuel consumption in 2022. Supporting and growing SAF availability is critical to increasing this volume and meeting the aviation industry’s emissions reduction goals. JetBlue customers may now send a key statement about consumer demand for more sustainable air travel options and contribute in the growth of the burgeoning SAF market by contributing to the purchase of additional SAF via CHOOOSE.

JetBlue’s newly announced cooperation with CHOOOSE expands on the previously announced JetBlue Sustainable Travel Partners programme for corporate travel customers. The initiative enables businesses to reduce their reported carbon footprint by acquiring SAF certificates issued by JetBlue and addressing “Scope 3” indirect emissions, such as those generated by corporate travel. Since the program’s start in 2022, various sustainability-focused organisations have purchased approximately 1.6 million gallons of SAF using JetBlue-issued SAF vouchers.

“CHOOOSE is thrilled to support JetBlue’s efforts to reduce its carbon emissions by making it easy and accessible for JetBlue customers to take action on the emissions associated with their flights and to join JetBlue in its efforts to transition to SAF. Airlines, governments, NGOs and travelers alike must come together to scale the production and use of SAF and other low-emission alternatives,” said Andreas Slettvoll, CEO at CHOOOSE. “This is how we change the emissions at their root cause, by allowing passengers to opt for alternatives to fossil fuel. We are excited to join JetBlue’s journey to becoming a more sustainable business. Together we will make SAF much more accessible to travelers across the world”
