One of India’s renewable energy companies ranked 2nd in the world for ESG performance in the Electric Utility and IPP sector by Refinitive.

ReNew Energy Global PLC, one of India’s leading renewable energy companies, has been recognised for outstanding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance by leading financial market data provider Refinitiv, according to the press release.

For FY 21-22, the renewable energy pioneer received an ESG performance score of 81.22/100, placing it first among all electric utilities and IPPs in India and second globally.

Refinitiv rated over 12,000 companies worldwide. Based on public disclosures, it assessed ReNew’s relative ESG performance, commitment, and effectiveness across core themes such as emissions, climate change mitigation, environmental product innovation, and human rights. The index is based on metrics obtained from publicly accessible sources such as annual reports, company website data, corporate social responsibility (CSR) reports, and other data points.

According to the press release, the carbon intensity of ReNew’s electricity generation is 32.83 gCO2/KWh, which is 94% lower than the global average. In addition, the company has pledged to become a net-zero carbon emitter by 2040, as well as to meet a broader range of ESG goals, such as water positivity, renewable energy procurement for operations, and zero waste to landfill. Furthermore, it aims to positively impact 2.5 million lives through CSR initiatives and ensure 30 per cent female workforce representation.
