PwC, a global professional services provider, has announced a range of measures aimed at enhancing its global biodiversity and nature capabilities. These include plans to establish a new Centre for Nature Positive Business, double the number of nature specialists within its team over the next year, and provide training to all its 328,000 employees to help them understand nature impacts and work with clients to achieve nature-positive outcomes.
The move is part of PwC’s global strategy, “The New Equation,” which was launched in 2021 and includes a $12 billion investment plan over five years, with ESG as a key area of focus. The Centre for Nature Positive Business will expand PwC’s capabilities in areas such as regenerative agriculture, biodiversity, forestry, and water, and will bring together more than 500 nature specialists, with plans to expand to 1,000.
The firm will also provide bespoke online learning on nature and biodiversity through its Sustainability Academy. Additionally, PwC has conducted an assessment to identify which of its offices are located in or near key biodiversity areas and is currently assessing the nature-related impacts of its supply chain. The company’s announcement coincided with the release of a new report, “Managing nature risks: From understanding to action,” which states that 55% of global GDP, equivalent to approximately $58 trillion, is moderately or highly dependent on nature and exposed to material nature risk, up from $44 trillion in 2020.
