Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport Terminal 2 (T2) in Karnataka, India, has received the prestigious IGBC Platinum certification from the Indian Green Building Council. Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the operator of Kempegowda International Airport, made an official announcement stating that T2 achieved this recognition under the IGBC Green New Building rating system.
According to the statement, BIAL strongly upholds sustainability as a fundamental principle in its business philosophy. T2 exemplifies this commitment by actively incorporating sustainable practices, demonstrating the organization’s dedication to responsible and environmentally conscious operations.
Hari Marar, the Managing Director and CEO of Bangalore International Airport Ltd., expressed his excitement in revealing that Terminal 2 has been awarded the esteemed Platinum rating by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) through their newly introduced IGBC Green New Buildings Rating System.
This accomplishment is a significant milestone for BIAL, affirming its unwavering commitment to sustainability. Marar emphasized that T2 serves as a prime example of the company’s dedication to implementing green concepts and techniques, showcasing its efforts to conserve natural resources, energy, and water.
He further mentioned that the design and construction of T2 adhere strictly to several important environmental categories outlined by the IGBC Green New Buildings rating system. These categories encompass Sustainable Architecture and Design, Site Selection and Planning, Water Conservation, Energy Efficiency, Building Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, as well as Innovation & Development.
By integrating these green concepts and techniques, T2 actively addresses national priorities, such as the conservation of natural resources, management of energy demand, water efficiency, adoption of renewable energy sources, and improvement of consumer and occupant health and comfort.
