IBM has expanded its ESG data platform, Envizi ESG Suite, by introducing a new module focused on Supply Chain Intelligence. This addition provides companies with the tools to gather and analyze emissions data throughout their supply chains, facilitating the calculation and reporting of Scope 3 emissions.
This launch is in response to increasing pressure on companies to monitor and disclose Scope 3 emissions, which encompass indirect greenhouse gas emissions from both upstream and downstream value chains. New sustainability reporting standards, including the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the IFRS’s ISSB standards, mandate the disclosure of Scope 3 emissions. Despite often constituting the majority of a company’s carbon footprint, these emissions are challenging to monitor and report due to their occurrence beyond direct operational control.
IBM emphasizes that the new module enables users to efficiently collect and aggregate substantial amounts of supplier and product-level data. The inclusion of automated data request and analysis features ensures enhanced data quality for reporting purposes while facilitating the identification of emission reduction opportunities within the supply chain.
