Apple unveils its first carbon neutral products

In a remarkable stride toward environmental responsibility, Apple has introduced carbon-neutral watches. The latest Apple Watch models, including the Series 9, SE, and Ultra 2, have been designated as carbon-neutral products.

Apple has achieved this milestone by sourcing 100% of the electricity used for manufacturing these watches from clean energy sources. This initiative, initiated in 2015, has reached its zenith with these watches being produced with minimal carbon footprints.

The Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 incorporate more than 30% recycled materials by weight. Since Series 5, Apple has been using 100% recycled aluminum for the cases. In Series 9, various components contain recycled materials, such as gold plating, tin in circuit boards, rare earth elements in magnets, tungsten in the Taptic Engine, and copper foil in the main logic board. Moreover, recycled cobalt is now used in the battery of Series 9 and Ultra 2.

In addition to using recycled materials, Apple is actively reducing transportation emissions. By shipping 50% or more of carbon-neutral Apple Watch products via eco-friendly means like sea freight, Apple has made significant strides in decreasing carbon dioxide emissions. This aligns with Apple’s broader goal of eliminating plastic from all packaging by 2025. The packaging for Series 9 is not only sustainable but also more compact, enabling up to 25% more watches to be shipped per trip.

Apple’s commitment to environmental responsibility is evident in these efforts to make its Apple Watch products carbon neutral and reduce their overall environmental impact. This reflects a significant development in the technology industry’s push towards a more sustainable future.
