Recent trends show that global tech giants are coming to India to spur their decarbonisation drive.

Alphabet, Meta, and Apple, among other US tech companies, are increasingly desperate for clean energy options. Moreover, these companies have some of the industry’s most aggressive net zero carbon emission targets. For example, Meta had committed to achieving net zero value chain emissions and restoring more water than it consumes in its global operations in 2030.

For instance, Meta has recently signed a deal with CleanMax, an Indian-based renewable energy company, to invest in 33.8 MW of new renewable energy projects in India. Similarly, ReNew Power, one of India’s largest renewable energy providers, has inked a deal with Microsoft to supply the technology giant with 150 megawatts of solar power, the latest in the growing market for power purchase agreements in the technology sector.

Deals like this one with Meta and Microsoft demonstrate that corporations worldwide are increasingly incorporating renewable energy into their operations in various forms. As a result, more and more are coming to India to spur their decarbonisation drive.
