Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) has introduced a new Responsible Store Design program, which focuses on evaluating both new and existing stores based on sustainability factors such as waste reduction, water and energy conservation and responsible material sourcing.
This initiative is aligned with ELC’s environmental commitments and aims to involve customers in their sustainability efforts. The program includes specific goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, transitioning to electric vehicles, increasing recycled packaging materials, and minimizing the use of petroleum-based plastics. The company developed the program with the help of a sustainability consulting firm and ensured its accuracy and credibility through third-party review.
To participate, brands must meet various prerequisites depending on their retail space and store type, encompassing waste management plans, energy and water efficiency, responsible sourcing, and eco-friendly visual merchandising. The program also addresses end-of-life merchandising by encouraging recycling partnerships and the use of easily recyclable materials.
