Lenovo and Kuehne+Nagel Partner to Create Green Logistics Solution to Help Customers Cut Carbon Emissions

Lenovo and Kuehne+Nagel are collaborating to develop a new logistics service to reduce the technology industry’s environmental impact. This service aims to assist businesses in reducing their carbon footprint and combating climate change.
Through an add-on purchase option, customers can purchase credits to offset the carbon footprint associated with shipping IT equipment and devices. These credits can fund Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a renewable fuel that reduces greenhouse gas emissions when burned.

SAF is currently one of the most effective methods for reducing the environmental impact of air freight by a substantial amount. Air freight is the fastest but also one of the most carbon-intensive modes of transport. Kuehne+Nagel will assign a specified amount of SAF to a purchased device through this service. This corresponds to a specific amount of CO2 that the customer may be able to claim as a reduction of Scope 3.1 emissions for goods and services purchased.

The service aims to assist customers in shipping their IT equipment in an eco-friendly manner and achieving their environmental objectives. It will also make reporting their offsetting efforts in their sustainability reports easier.

“Lenovo is constantly looking at new ways to fulfil our 2050 net-zero vision, and embed sustainability deeper into the technology value chain, from improving efficiency of our products to the use of sustainable materials. This also extends to supporting our customers in their carbon reduction journeys and this collaboration with Kuehne+Nagel is a key example. With freight transportation accounting for about eight percent of global greenhouse gas emissions1, being able to choose lower carbon delivery options for their IT equipment will go a long way in helping them minimize their carbon footprint,” said Claudia Contreras, Executive Director of Global Sustainability Services at Lenovo.
