  • Rollout of the global Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging Network progressing well: opening of the first charging stations in Atlanta (USA), Chengdu (CHN) and Mannheim (GER) in the fourth quarter of 2023
  • Mercedes-Benz plans to expand its global fast charging network to over 2,000 fast charging points by the end of 2024
  • Global reach by the end of the decade: more than 10,000 high-power chargers in North America, Europe, China and other core markets

Mercedes-Benz is embarking on its first high-power charging station initiative this autumn, in line with its ambitious strategy to expand the global charging infrastructure. The initial launch, scheduled for October, will see the introduction of Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs in Atlanta (USA), Chengdu (China), and Mannheim (Germany). By the close of 2024, Mercedes-Benz is targeting the expansion of its global charging network to comprise over 2,000 high-power charging points. The company’s overarching objective is to establish more than 2,000 Charging Hubs, encompassing over 10,000 charging points by the end of the decade.

In establishing this charging ecosystem, Mercedes-Benz is redefining benchmarks for rapid, convenient, and eco-conscious electric vehicle charging. Depending on the geographical area, the charging stations offer a current charging rate of up to 400 kW, compatible with standard charging systems such as CCS1, CCS2, NACS, and GB/T. Through intelligent charging management, each vehicle can be charged at its optimal power level, minimizing charging durations for customers.

During the selection of Charging Hub locations, Mercedes-Benz prioritizes providing customers with a pleasant and secure experience. Situated in high-traffic regions and select Mercedes-Benz dealerships, these stations also offer supplementary amenities like refreshments, snacks, and restroom facilities. Equipping the charging stations with surveillance cameras is on the agenda to enhance safety. In certain locations, intelligent light poles offer suitable illumination and functional LED indicators conveying charging point availability and vehicle charging status. Canopies at specific Charging Hubs provide protection against adverse weather conditions.

The charging network is accessible to drivers of all car brands. Notably, Mercedes-Benz customers receive special privileges, including the option to reserve charging points via the Mercedes-Benz me Charge service, thus reducing waiting times. Seamlessly integrating with the existing charging infrastructure of over 1.3 million charging points worldwide, the Mercedes-Benz charging network will be a seamless addition. The charging stations will be incorporated directly into route planning through Mercedes-Benz’s Navigation with Electric Intelligence, optimizing the charging process. To enhance user convenience, the charging stations will feature additional amenities such as Plug & Charge, streamlining the charging and payment process once the cable is connected.

Aligned with its sustainability vision “Ambition 2039,” Mercedes-Benz empowers customers to charge their vehicles with 100% renewable electricity within this charging network. This is achieved primarily through green electricity supply agreements or the use of renewable energy certificates from accredited suppliers. Selected Charging Hubs will also incorporate solar panels to supply electricity for the hubs themselves.

In its steadfast commitment to an “electric only” future, Mercedes-Benz is investing in a global charging network. The Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging Network is a pivotal element of the company’s comprehensive electrification strategy, augmenting its existing initiatives such as the European fast-charging network IONITY and a joint venture to expand North American charging infrastructure. This network will be part of Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG, encompassing all charging-related endeavours.
