EMA, Shell Launch Singapore’s First Smart and Clean Energy-Powered Service Stations
Share on LinkedInShare on Twitter

Singapore has introduced its inaugural intelligent and eco-friendly energy-fueled service stations. This initiative was brought to fruition after a grant for innovation was bestowed upon Singapore’s renewable energy provider, Eigen Energy, in March 2021. The grant was a joint effort by the Singapore Energy Market Authority (EMA) and Shell, with backing from Enterprise Singapore.

Three Shell service stations situated in Tampines, Pasir Ris, and Lakeview will deliver electric vehicle (EV) charging using exclusively certified renewable energy sources. These encompass energy derived from solar panels on the roofs of these stations, as well as other Shell rooftops across Singapore. Consumers can now anticipate powering their vehicles with cleaner energy solutions.

The energy captured from the solar panels on each station’s roof contributes to the station’s power, which is integrated with a battery energy storage system (BESS). Shell’s intelligent energy management system regulates the BESS and oversees power consumption, thereby enabling high-powered EV charging.

Moreover, the trio of Shell service stations will also provide the swiftest EV charging available at service stations in Singapore, exceeding the common 50kW DC chargers by more than threefold. Depending on the vehicle model, a typical 30kWh charging session at these stations can now be completed in under 15 minutes.

Aligned with the objectives of the Singapore Green Plan 2030 to amplify the deployment of solar energy, this venture is part of a multi-year partnership between EMA and Shell. The collaboration aims to foster innovation, bolster local businesses, and enhance capabilities in energy storage and digitalization. Over the past two years, Eigen Energy has collaborated with EMA and Shell as a sustainable infrastructure systems integrator, thereby successfully delivering this project.
