An ag-tech startup, Windfall Bio, developing the first-ever solution for capturing and transforming climate-harming methane emissions into living organic fertiliser, raises $9 Million in Seed Funding.

Windfall Bio, an ag-tech and climate startup, has announced the completion of a $9m seed round led by Mayfield and UNTITLED, a venture fund founded by Magnus Rausing of the TetraLaval Family, and supported by investors including B37 Ventures, Baruch Future Ventures, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Cavallo Ventures.

The company aims to capture dilute methane emissions, a significant contributor to global warming, and transform them into organic fertilisers. Windfall Bio uses nature-based technology to enrich methane-eating microbes that consume methane and nitrogen to produce organic fertilisers with better bioavailability, reduced runoff, and reduced downstream emissions than synthetic ammonia fertilisers. The company will use the funding to start pilot deployments on farms and accelerate R&D activities. The technology enables farmers to capture waste methane emissions and transform them into high-value organic fertilisers that can be used on-site or sold to generate new revenue streams.

“Our methane-to-fertilizer solution is a paradigm shift for climate technologies. We are empowering farmers of all sizes to be a part of the methane solution, improving efficiency and reducing costs while also helping them reduce their reliance on synthetic fertilizers. Windfall’s technology represents a unique win-win-win for farmers, consumers, and climate.”

Josh Silverman, CEO and co-founder of Windfall Bio.
