Windstream, a privately held communications and software company, has been recognised as a Morningstar Sustainalytics ESG Industry Top Rated company and a Regional Top Rated company in 2023, said the press release.
Furthermore, Morningstar Sustainalytics, a leading global ESG (environmental, social, and governance) research and ratings firm, has recognised Windstream in the telecommunications services industry and the region of the United States and Canada for the second year in a row.
As of January 31, Windstream was ranked fourth out of 224 companies in the telecommunications industry. In addition, it was the only US telecommunications company to make the Top Rated list.
Morningstar Sustainalytics assigned Windstream an ESG Risk Rating of 13.4 as of December 2022. Windstream’s Risk Management score, which measures the robustness of companies’ ESG programmes, improved to 73.7. The company is still classified as “Low Risk” regarding material financial impacts from ESG factors.
Sustainalytics’ ESG Risk Ratings assess a company’s exposure to industry-specific material ESG risks and how well those risks are managed. This two-dimensional approach to measuring ESG risk combines the concepts of management and exposure to produce an ESG risk assessment, i.e., a total unmanaged ESG risk score or the ESG Risk Rating, comparable across industries.
“Windstream is proud to be recognised as an Industry Top Rated company and a Regional Top Rated company for the second year in a row. Our ongoing commitment to making progress on ESG factors is an important sign of good citizenship and a key to creating value for our stakeholders.”
Tony Thomas, Windstream president and CEO.
