Carrier, a company that provides HVAC, refrigeration, and sustainable building solutions, has made several strategic moves to become a leader in climate and energy solutions, including the acquisition of Viessmann Climate Solutions, a heating solutions manufacturer that focuses on heat pumps and energy transitions.
The acquisition, which is worth €12 billion (USD$13.3 billion), will position Carrier as a “pure-play, global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions” alongside the planned spinoff of its Fire & Security and Commercial Refrigeration cabinet businesses.
The Viessmann Climate Solutions unit is the largest segment of privately-held company Viessmann Group and has announced plans to invest €1 billion to expand its manufacturing footprint and R&D labs for green climate solutions over three years, with a particular focus on heat pumps. Carrier has made several climate-focused moves in recent years, including a goal to help its customers avoid more than 1 gigaton of GHG emissions by 2030 and a new sustainability target to achieve net zero emissions across its value chain by 2050.
