TotalEnergies and Air Liquide launch TEAL Mobility for hydrogen truck stations

TotalEnergies and Air Liquide established TEAL Mobility, an equally owned joint venture to build a network of over 100 hydrogen stations along major European transport routes for heavy-duty trucks. The pan-European hydrogen refuelling buildout offers a model for heavy-duty transport decarbonisation relevant to Indian logistics operators and policymakers evaluating hydrogen mobility.

TotalEnergies and Air Liquide announced the establishment of TEAL Mobility, a joint venture owned equally by both companies to expand hydrogen infrastructure for heavy-duty trucks across key European routes. Over the next decade, TEAL Mobility plans to establish more than 100 hydrogen stations, creating the first pan-European network of its scale under the TotalEnergies brand. Around 20 stations will be operational in France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany starting from 2024, hastening hydrogen adoption for heavy-duty trucks.

Transport and logistics companies committed to reducing their carbon footprint are affected, along with truck manufacturers and transport operators. Hydrogen is positioned as an optimal choice for long-distance road transport due to its quick refuelling time of around 15 minutes and extensive range of approximately 800 km, while maintaining vehicle payload capacity. The joint venture serves B2B customers and leverages both founders' expertise across the hydrogen value chain and station network operation, management, and energy distribution.

Transport and logistics operators should monitor the rollout of around 20 stations across France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany from 2024, scaling to more than 100 stations over the decade. TEAL Mobility facilitates marketing of hydrogen to transportation clients through stations developed, operated, and supplied by the joint venture.
