IEEFA Australia CEO Denis-Ryan Leads Industrial Decarbonisation Research

Amandine Denis-Ryan has served as CEO of IEEFA Australia since 2022, leading the organisation's research on gas and LNG markets, demand-side opportunities, and industrial decarbonisation across one of the world's largest fossil fuel exporting nations. She brings a decade of prior experience from leadership roles at Climateworks Centre, where she developed Australia's first domestic net-zero emissions pathway.

Denis-Ryan joined IEEFA following her work at Climateworks Centre, where she led the development and subsequent updates of the first domestic net-zero pathway for Australia, a framework used by businesses, financial institutions, and government bodies. Before Climateworks, she worked as a management consultant at McKinsey and Company in Sydney, advising clients across the public and private sectors on sustainability strategy, carbon abatement opportunities, and associated policies. She holds an MBA as well as master's degrees from Ecole Polytechnique in France and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Under Denis-Ryan's leadership, IEEFA Australia has produced research critical of major financial institutions' fossil fuel financing practices, including a June 2023 report finding that Macquarie Group's oil and gas investments directly contradict its Net Zero Banking Alliance commitments. Her work on industrial decarbonisation is particularly relevant to Australia's role as a major exporter of metallurgical coal and LNG, sectors under increasing financial scrutiny from Asian buyers pursuing their own decarbonisation targets.

Denis-Ryan is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors course, positioning her to engage with corporate governance dimensions of energy transition risk. IEEFA Australia's research agenda under her leadership spans domestic electricity markets, LNG export competitiveness, and the financial risks associated with continued investment in fossil fuel infrastructure. Her work addresses a market where gas prices have tripled on the eastern coast since 2015.
