ICVCM Opens Applications for New Expert Panel Members

The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market is recruiting senior and young professionals to join its independent Expert Panel for a term of up to three years beginning in 2025. The panel advises on carbon crediting methodology assessments and the Core Carbon Principles framework.

The ICVCM Expert Panel, whose current term expires at end-2024, provides technical expertise on carbon accounting, sustainable development measurement, and social and environmental safeguards for carbon projects. Members are remunerated and must commit to a minimum of four days of work per calendar month. The council is seeking both senior professionals with more than ten years of relevant experience and young professionals, particularly from countries where carbon projects are being developed, to build methodological expertise.

The Expert Panel plays a central role in the assessment of carbon crediting programs and their methodologies for adherence to the Core Carbon Principles, which form the first independent global standard for high-integrity carbon credits. Diversity in geographic representation and technical background is a stated priority, with the ICVCM encouraging applicants who are not employed by project developers or credit rating companies to apply, in order to minimise conflicts of interest.

Panel co-chairs carry additional responsibilities including managing the work programme and chairing meetings, with a minimum commitment of eight days per month. Appointments will proceed under revised Terms and Procedures currently under development. The ICVCM noted that the application period has closed and submissions are under review, with the new cohort set to begin in early 2025 and serve through 2028.
