Sustainable Procurement and Corporate Sustainability: ESG BROADCAST shares key takeaways.

EcoVadis announced a transformative partnership with Amazon Business to integrate professional sustainability ratings directly into the global B2B e-commerce platform. This development allows millions of business customers to use a Sustainability Rating as a primary search criterion when selecting suppliers. The integration represents a significant shift in how corporate buyers discover and vet partners based on environmental and social performance. It streamlines the procurement process by making high-performing ESG suppliers immediately visible during the initial search phase.

The new feature enables Amazon Business customers to filter search results based on the specific EcoVadis medal earned by a company. Suppliers who have undergone a rigorous Sustainability Rating assessment and earned Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum status now receive enhanced visibility. This functionality is currently live across Amazon Business stores globally, providing a standardized way to compare the ESG maturity of thousands of vendors. By embedding these metrics into the purchasing workflow, Amazon is effectively rewarding companies that prioritize transparency.

EcoVadis utilizes a comprehensive evidence-based methodology to determine each Sustainability Rating for a business. The assessment evaluates four key pillars: Environment, Labor and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. These ratings cover over 200 industry categories and are based on international standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative and the UN Global Compact. Integrating such a robust framework into a mainstream marketplace like Amazon Business ensures that sustainability claims are verified and credible for professional buyers.

The partnership aligns with Amazon’s broader Climate Pledge Friendly program, which helps customers discover products that meet specific sustainability certifications. By adding the EcoVadis Sustainability Rating to this ecosystem, Amazon Business addresses the growing demand for corporate accountability in the supply chain. Procurement leaders often struggle to find reliable data on supplier performance during the discovery phase. This integration removes that friction by placing verified ESG data at the point of purchase for millions of professional users.

Suppliers on the platform now face increased pressure to maintain and improve their sustainability credentials to remain competitive. As business buyers increasingly prioritize ethical sourcing, a high Sustainability Rating becomes a critical commercial differentiator. This market-driven approach incentivizes companies to invest in better labor practices and carbon reduction strategies to secure their position in search results. It effectively turns sustainability from a compliance requirement into a powerful tool for business growth and market expansion.

Strategic significance lies in the democratization of high-quality ESG data within the global B2B marketplace. By making the Sustainability Rating a functional search filter, Amazon Business and EcoVadis are accelerating the transition toward a more transparent global supply chain. This move forces suppliers to treat ESG performance as a core component of their value proposition rather than a secondary reporting exercise. For businesses, this integration provides a clear financial incentive to improve sustainability scores, as visibility on the world’s largest B2B platform now depends on verified environmental and social stewardship.
