EcoVadis and Watershed Partner to Provide Supplier-Specific Scope 3 Emissions Data

Business sustainability ratings provider EcoVadis and climate platform Watershed have announced a strategic partnership to integrate EcoVadis' primary carbon metrics directly into Watershed's carbon accounting platform, enabling companies to replace broad Scope 3 averages with actual supplier-specific emissions data. The collaboration aims to help enterprises tackle the Scope 3 data gap across global supply chains.

Under the partnership, EcoVadis' direct supplier carbon metrics will be integrated into Watershed's AI-powered carbon accounting tools. The combination of EcoVadis' supplier-specific data and Watershed's analytics platform will allow procurement teams to make lower-carbon sourcing decisions and track supply chain emissions reductions over time. The partnership builds on the recent launch by EcoVadis of its Product Carbon Footprint Calculator, designed to give suppliers a tool to calculate their carbon footprint tied directly to materials, energy consumption, and transportation for specific products.

Scope 3 emissions — those occurring upstream in supplier operations and downstream in product use — typically represent 70% or more of a company's total GHG footprint, and remain the hardest category to measure accurately. The current reliance on sector average emissions factors rather than supplier-specific data introduces significant uncertainty into corporate Scope 3 calculations, reducing the credibility and usefulness of emissions targets and progress reporting. As mandatory Scope 3 reporting expands globally — under frameworks such as SEBI's BRSR Core, the EU's CSRD, and the SEC's pending climate disclosure rules — demand for primary supplier data will grow sharply.

The EcoVadis–Watershed partnership positions both companies to benefit from increasing corporate investment in Scope 3 measurement infrastructure.
