GRI Names Susanne Stormer Chair of Global Sustainability Standards Board

The Global Reporting Initiative has appointed sustainability reporting veteran Susanne Stormer as Chair of the Global Sustainability Standards Board, the independent body responsible for developing the GRI Standards. Stormer brings experience from PwC Denmark, Novo Nordisk, and several international reporting standard-setting bodies.

Stormer currently serves as Leader in Residence at Copenhagen Business School, focused on corporate sustainability and leadership. She joins the GSSB after serving as Sustainability Services Leader at PwC Denmark from 2021 to 2025, where she provided sustainability advisory and assurance services. Prior to PwC, she was Vice President of Corporate Sustainability at Novo Nordisk and led the integration of the company's sustainability reporting into its Annual Report. The GSSB was founded by GRI in 2015 and has sole responsibility for developing the GRI Standards, which were launched in 2016.

Stormer's appointment to the GSSB chairship brings together deep practical and standard-setting experience. She has served as a member of the EFRAG European Sustainability Reporting Standards Project Task Force, a SASB Standards Board Member, and a founding member of the International Integrated Reporting Council. The GRI Standards remain among the most widely adopted global sustainability disclosure frameworks, used by companies across a broad range of sectors and jurisdictions to communicate material sustainability impacts to stakeholders.

The appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the sustainability reporting landscape, with ongoing evolution in global standards frameworks including the ISSB standards and the EU's ESRS under CSRD. Stormer said the GRI Standards and her career have evolved together through the development of corporate sustainability reporting, and she is focused on building on GRI's long-held leadership position. The GSSB's agenda includes ongoing development and revision of the GRI Standards to address emerging reporting needs and maintain interoperability with other frameworks.
