ISSB Proposes SASB Standard Updates for Agriculture and Power Sectors

ESG Broadcast Desk· 26 Mar 2026· 1 min read

The IFRS Foundation's International Sustainability Standards Board published new exposure drafts with proposed amendments to three SASB sustainability reporting standards covering Agricultural Products, Meat, Poultry and Dairy, and Electric Utilities and Power Generators. The proposals are open for public comment until July 24, 2026.

For the Agricultural Products standard, the ISSB proposed expanding scope to include direct farming operations and adding new disclosure topics on Food Loss and Food Waste and Land Use and Ecological Impacts. The Meat, Poultry and Dairy standard proposals include changes to metrics and new Product Innovation, Environmental Supply Chain Management, and Social Supply Chain Management disclosure topics. The Electric Utilities and Power Generators standard proposals add new topics covering Ecological Impacts, Community Relations, Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Employee Development, and Supply Chain Management.

The SASB standards, founded in 2011 and consolidated into the ISSB in 2022, cover 77 industries and provide industry-specific disclosure guidance on sustainability risks. Companies applying ISSB standards IFRS S1 and S2 are required to consider the applicability of SASB standards in their disclosures. The proposed amendments aim to align SASB language and concepts with ISSB standards, improve international applicability, and support interoperability with other disclosure frameworks. Nine exposure drafts covering other sector standards were released last year.

The three sectors addressed in the new exposure drafts are material for India, which is home to large agricultural conglomerates and a rapidly expanding power generation sector undergoing a transition to renewables. Indian companies voluntarily adopting ISSB standards or reporting under frameworks that reference SASB will face expanded disclosure requirements under these proposals. The ISSB invited feedback during the comment period through July 24, 2026, after which final amendments will be incorporated into the published SASB standards.
