Planet Mark Names Avital Johanan Managing Director to Accelerate Supply Chain Focus

Sustainability certification provider Planet Mark has appointed Avital Johanan as Managing Director, with founder Steve Malkin moving to a Founder and Senior Advisor role. Johanan, who joined Planet Mark as Chief Product Officer in early 2024, will lead the company's next phase of growth with a focus on supply chain risk management and SME engagement.

Founded in 2013 and acquired by health, safety, and ESG risk management company Alcumus in 2023, Planet Mark provides sustainability certification for businesses demonstrating commitment to measuring and reducing carbon emissions. Its certifications span the built environment, including development, fit and retrofit, and property certification, as well as social value certification covering people, community, volunteering, procurement, and environmental impacts. The company serves hundreds of businesses with its end-to-end sustainability programme.

Johanan brings a background in data products and business transformation to the role, including executive positions at information and analytics provider IHS Markit. Planet Mark highlighted her work building a product strategy at the company that will serve as the foundation for its expanded supply chain focus. The appointment reflects the growing importance of engaging suppliers in carbon reduction and net zero programmes, as companies face increasing expectations from investors and regulators to manage and disclose value chain emissions.

Planet Mark's shift toward supply chain sustainability and SME engagement mirrors a broader industry trend as CSRD obligations for large companies require them to collect sustainability data from smaller suppliers. Malkin said the company has proven that sustainability can be a source of growth and resilience for every business. For India's corporate sector, where supply chain ESG data is increasingly required by global buyers under BRSR and international reporting standards, Planet Mark's expanded supply chain certification model represents a relevant approach to SME capability building.
