PepsiCo Achieves 100 Percent Water Replenishment at High-Risk Facilities

PepsiCo announced it has met its goal of replenishing 100% of the water used at all company-owned facilities in high water-risk watersheds, restoring an equivalent volume or more back into local ecosystems. The achievement forms a milestone within pep+, the company's sustainability framework launched in 2021.

PepsiCo achieved the water replenishment milestone through a combination of nature-based conservation, wetland restoration, water infrastructure projects, and on-farm irrigation efficiency programs. The company contributed to more than 60 water stewardship projects globally, including in the United States, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Spain, and Turkey, helping to replenish nearly 29 billion liters of water into local watersheds. The company has also adopted the Alliance for Water Stewardship Standard across all high water-risk manufacturing sites globally.

Water management is increasingly material for food and beverage companies operating in water-stressed geographies. PepsiCo pushed back its net-zero climate and packaging targets in May 2025 to account for external realities but retained its water commitments, underscoring the strategic priority of water stewardship. India, one of the world's most water-stressed countries and a major market for PepsiCo, represents a region where water stewardship programs and agricultural efficiency initiatives carry heightened relevance for both operations and supply chains.

Looking ahead, PepsiCo has set a 2030 goal to achieve Net Water Positive status across all company-owned facilities and franchise bottler manufacturing operations, as well as a target to support access to safe water for 100 million people. The company's water program will continue to emphasize high water-risk locations as it expands replenishment and stewardship activities. The AWS Standard framework provides a globally recognized benchmark for external verification of these activities as PepsiCo advances toward its 2030 goals.
