Radisson Hotel Group Targets 100 Verified Net Zero Hotels Globally by 2030

Radisson Hotel Group announced a target to certify 100 Verified Net Zero hotels worldwide by 2030, covering 100% renewable energy, low-carbon food menus, and minimal waste at each property. The group is transitioning its pilot Verified Net Zero Hotels program, currently operating at two properties in Manchester and Oslo, into a full global rollout beginning in 2026.

Radisson's Verified Net Zero Hotels framework addresses all three GHG emissions scopes, aligned with the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels and validated against the Science Based Targets initiative. Scope 1 and 2 emissions are eliminated through electrification, renewable district heating and cooling, and 100% renewable energy sourcing, while Scope 3 emissions are significantly reduced across food and beverage, waste, laundry, amenities, and business travel. Each certified hotel undergoes independent verification by TUV Rheinland. Approximately 20% of guests at current VNZ hotels indicated they selected the property because of its net zero status.

The VNZ global rollout is planned in phases starting in Norway in 2026, followed by Denmark, Sweden, the UK, and South Africa, with further expansion over a five-year period. The hospitality sector is under growing pressure to address its carbon footprint as corporate travel buyers and individual consumers increasingly factor sustainability into accommodation choices. Verified net zero status, backed by third-party certification, differentiates participating properties in markets where ESG commitments by business travel clients drive procurement decisions.

Radisson CEO Federico Gonzalez Tejera described the program as an important step in the company's net zero transformation and a new standard for how hospitality can reduce environmental impact while supporting economic activity. As corporate travel programs in India and globally integrate scope 3 reporting requirements covering business travel, hotel providers with verified net zero credentials will benefit from heightened demand from sustainability-focused corporate clients. The company aims to use the five-year phased expansion to build credibility and develop a scalable VNZ certification infrastructure.
