Sweep and HowGood Partner to Deliver Product-Level Food Emissions Accounting

Enterprise sustainability platform Sweep and product carbon footprint company HowGood announced a partnership to provide food and agriculture companies with ingredient- and product-level emissions data for Scope 3 carbon accounting and regulatory reporting. HowGood's database of more than 12 million product carbon footprints across food and agricultural supply chains will be integrated directly into Sweep's platform.

The partnership responds to mounting regulatory pressure on food companies to report emissions with greater specificity under frameworks including CSRD and California's SB 253. Food products can involve dozens of ingredients sourced across multiple suppliers and countries. The integrated solution will support standard food-specific emissions factors, custom calculations based on a company's own product and sourcing data, and primary-data calculations built from direct supplier inputs and agricultural practices.

Generic industry averages for food supply chain emissions have historically introduced significant uncertainty into corporate carbon accounting, limiting the ability to identify and act on specific reduction levers. By embedding granular emissions data at the ingredient and product level into a Scope 3 reporting workflow, the partnership enables food companies to move from approximations to auditable, actionable numbers. The food and agriculture sector accounts for an estimated 25 to 30 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Sweep CEO Rachel Delacour noted that food companies hold some of the most complex sustainability data in any industry, often locked in spreadsheets and disconnected systems. HowGood CEO Alexander Gillet described the joint solution as replacing uncertainty with auditable and actionable numbers that reflect how a company actually sources and manufactures. The partnership is relevant for Indian food exporters and processors that face increasing sustainability data requests from European and American buyers operating under CSRD or SB 253 obligations.
