SBTi Services Launches Fully Digitised Target Validation Portal for Corporate Submissions
SBTi Services has launched an upgraded Validation Portal that digitises the entire science-based target submission journey for corporates, replacing spreadsheet-based forms with an interactive digital interface that guides companies through registration, commitment, submission and validation. Spreadsheet submissions are no longer accepted for new corporate target applications as of June 18, 2025.
The upgraded portal was developed through extensive user feedback, including a pilot programme with 30 participating companies. Key features include a step-by-step digital submission format with automated pre-screening checks that flag data issues before submission, flexible navigation allowing users to save progress and revisit sections out of order, multi-user access for internal teams and external consultants, and real-time submission status visibility. A structured 30-day validation timeline provides clear milestones and set touchpoints with SBTi Services reviewers, including a kick-off call within three days of validation starting.
For SMEs and financial institutions, the portal upgrade delivers targeted improvements. SME applicants now answer two additional questions at submission to ensure they are directed to the correct validation pathway. Financial institutions can now directly enter base year and target year data into the portal, which feeds directly to the public SBTi Target Dashboard after validation — improving accuracy and transparency of publicly disclosed target information. Consultants supporting multiple client submissions retain full visibility of all submissions through a shared dashboard.
Companies that had already submitted targets prior to the portal upgrade were not required to take any action, with existing submissions continuing to be reviewed under the previous process. Companies starting or resuming the process after June 18, 2025 must use the new digital interface. The portal launch is part of SBTi Services' broader plan to scale validation capacity in response to growing global demand. Further enhancements are in development, including in-portal communication between companies and SBTi Services reviewers during the validation process.
