Walmart is expanding its drone delivery service to the Dallas area through a partnership with Wing, a drone delivery provider backed by Alphabet. Two Dallas metro stores will offer drone deliveries in coming months, reaching an additional 60,000 households. The programme, launched in 2021, has run trials in multiple states and completed over 10,000 safe deliveries. Wing's drones fly beyond the operator's line of sight, transporting packages within approximately a 6-mile radius of participating stores.

The development affects retailers, last-mile logistics providers, and drone delivery operators. The inaugural store is the Walmart Supercenter at 8555 Preston Road in Frisco, Texas. Customers download the Wing app to check coverage, with deliverable items including frozen treats, household essentials, quick meals, and eggs. Walmart positions drone delivery as an environmentally conscious option, citing reduced truck stops, lower traffic congestion and emissions, zero-emission electric motors, and reduced noise pollution compared with trucks.
