SBTi Overhauls Target Dashboard with New Identifiers and Data Structure

The Science Based Targets initiative launched an updated version of its Target Dashboard on 11 March 2025, consolidating data into a single interface and introducing new unique identifiers for companies and individual targets. The legacy dashboard interface, previously known as the Companies Taking Action table, was retired as part of the upgrade.

The updated dashboard introduces SBTi IDs to distinguish individual businesses and Entry IDs for tracking specific targets and commitments in the by-target data download. Column names across data downloads have been moved to snake_case convention, and a new validation route field identifies whether a business used the corporate, financial institution or SME pathway. The total company count displayed on the dashboard no longer includes businesses whose commitments have been removed, improving the accuracy of headline figures used by investors, supply chain analysts and civil society researchers.

The dashboard is widely used by businesses monitoring science-based target adoption across their supply chains, by financial markets for investment decision-making, and by academic and civil society groups tracking corporate climate accountability. The redesigned interface offers faster load speeds and resolves two known bugs, including a filtering issue that caused companies with validated targets to display as committed-only status, and an error causing incorrect data in the target column. These fixes improve reliability for users running supply chain due diligence and portfolio screening exercises.

An API for programmatic data access, one of the most frequently requested features, was not included in the March 2025 release but remains under consideration for a future update. The SBTi will continue refining the dashboard in subsequent releases. By-company and by-target data downloads remain available, with updated field name alignment between the two formats to simplify comparative analysis. The new download links became accessible on the launch date and are listed in the dashboard's resources section alongside data dictionaries and update tables.
